BCSummer Blackout Poetry Event

Black Card Members had a blackout poetry event on their Discord server in 2024 and these are the pieces i made for it. we used this blackout poetry maker to make the poems. some of them are based on other poets' work: Some Effects of Global Warming in Lackawanna County by Jay Parini; Revolution is the Sound of Your Heart Still Beating by Dominique Christina; and Harvest Moon by Franny Choi. the others use text from Alice in Wonderland and, iirc, Winnie the Pooh.

sobbing ice

sobbing ice poem

sobbing Ice in a groggy summer

my heart — frozen

praise

praise poem

Praise your body and the language and learning.

the becoming. the fight.

Praise the universe — and

Praise your resurrection.

feed and feed and feed

feed poem

Last winter, I laughed when the sky collapsed

the sky casts over, cataract, callous, and the earth fumes

Still, still you'll find

I feed and feed and feed.

down down down

down down poem

too dark to see

down, down, down.

four thousand miles down, no one listening

Do you think you could manage it?

I wish you were here with me!

I'm afraid, I couldn't answer it.

meant to be

meant to be poem

humming this hum

Aha! (Rum-tum-tiddle-um-tum.)

Company, listening-to-me rum-tum-tum-tiddle-um.

called out, shout loud

must be somebody, meant to be.

Oh! This is me!
